Situated where European settlement in Roxbury and Grand Gorge commenced, The Catskill Folklife Center celebrates the rich history of the region’s native and European communities. We will guide our visitors through an experiential visit to the technological innovations, cultural exchanges, and historical interconnections that shaped this area during the colonial era and the inception of the State of New York. Our exhibits serve as a journey to the past, enriching present-day understanding. The Museum’s goal is to present the story of the creation of Grand Gorge in its first generation, the diverse new families and the Lenape nation that existed here before the new settlers arrived. We welcome your family stories. Feel free to contact us through the email link below if you have a story or would like to plan a visit.
